GreenWhey to open $28 million food waste-to-energy project (USA)

The byproducts of cheese production will be converted into electricity, heat and fertilizer in northwest Wisconsin, as part of a renewable energy project that is expected to be completed this summer. The anaerobic digester will be among the largest privately held wastewater treatment facilities producing energy in the country. The project is moving forward after obtaining construction and long-term financing, according to GreenWhey Energy, which was formed to build and operate the digester.
