What’s new in anaerobic digestion and biogas? (UK)

Despite opportunities for the co-digestion of sewage sludge and other organic wastes being hampered by regulation, water and sewerage companies are continuing to find innovative ways to treat waste water. Co-location, advanced digestion and biomethane injection are all very much on the agenda, while there is hope that changes in regulation could help exploit the potential for co-digestion. Over the next year changes to end of waste regulation, at both the UK and European scale, should offer some clarity as to the future regulation of digestate, and most importantly, whether the massive potential afforded by co-digestion will move closer on the horizon.
